Prescription Lens inserts, and why you might need them.

Edited

Overview:

Do I need the prescription lens inserts?

If you need a prescription for distance vision, the answer is Yes!

The prescription lens inserts can help...

  • Reduce eyestrain

  • Increase edge to edge clarity

  • Reduce glare

My prescription is pretty weak though!

The Beyond's optics are pretty sensitive to needing vision correction, especially astigmatism.

People who definitely need to buy prescription lens inserts:

  • Anyone who has a -prescription (SPH -0.50 to SPH -12.00)

  • Anyone with a +prescription (ex. SPH +2.0)

  • Anyone with astigmatism (CYL/AXIS)

    • This applies even if the SPH field is blank.

Basically, if you have SPH -0.25 in both eyes, you can skip it. Otherwise, we recommend grabbing them.

I never used lens inserts in previous VR headsets and I was fine.

The Beyond's unique optics require precision to get the best experience out of them, which is a part of why the custom face cushion is custom-tailored to you so the lenses sit in the correct position, every time. This precision also means the optics are sensitive to vision issues, more than previous VR headsets - several people have discovered the need for inserts for the first time thanks to the Beyond!

I ordered the lens inserts. When will they arrive?

Prescription lens inserts take roughly 4 weeks on average to ship. It can be a little quicker or slower as they're ordered in batches - you will not receive any notification until they are shipped, but feel free to contact us if you're concerned about the status of your order!

I have contact lenses. Should I order the inserts still?

While contact lenses can work fine, prescription lens inserts can typically provide superior correction and the best visual experience, particularly for astigmatism.

Which prescription should I use?

The Beyond targets a focal plane roughly a meter away, which is farther than close-up (reading glasses) and intermediate (i.e computer glasses) prescriptions. As such, always use your distance prescription (regular glasses) for ordering the lens inserts.

  • Always use your eyeglasses prescription, and NOT your contact lens prescription - they differ a little.

The Beyond targets a focal plane approximately 1 meter away. If you have a strong prescription for both close up and far away vision, a prescription measured at 1 meter may provide better results.
