Pre-purchase Questions
Overview
If you're looking to buy a Beyond but have some questions, this article is here to provide the answers for all common inquiries!
Shipping
How long does it take to ship a Beyond to my country?
The current estimate for new orders will be displayed on the website! At the time of writing, new orders are expected to ship in January-February depending on SKU/color choice
This estimate was last updated on December 22nd, 2025
I can't complete the 3D scan right away - will this delay my order?
If you can't complete the 3D scan immediately, there's no need to worry!
The facescan link will expire every 4 days, but we will send you a new link automatically to complete the scan.
We're able to process 3D Face Scans quickly after receiving them. As such, your order will not be delayed as long as it's completed ~1-2 weeks before we're ready to ship!
My country isn't in the supported countries list on your store - can I order a Beyond?
We currently support shipping only to the USA, Canada, UK, EU, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
If you live in a country outside our supported shipping regions (e.g. China, Singapore, India, UAE), we won't be able to ship your order directly.
However, you might want to consider using a forwarding company. These services can provide you with a local shipping address in one of the countries we do ship to, and then forward the package to your location. Many of our customers outside of our shipping zones have successfully used forwarding companies to receive their orders.
Note that an Apple ID from a region we support shipping to must be used in order to complete the 3D scan.
For further info, refer to the "What is the status of my order?" help article.
System requirements
How do I complete the 3D scan? Can I use an Android device?
Unfortunately, Apple devices (both iPhone and iPad) are the only ones that have the necessary hardware for creating the 3D scan of your face for your custom-fit cushion. Anything on this list will work, except for the iPhone X. Scan quality will remain the same even on older devices, barring any hardware issues.
Don't personally own an iOS device? Check out the "No Apple device to complete the scan?" help article.
I'd just like to use my Beyond for seated experiences (e.g. Sim Racing, laptop monitor replacement), do I need a base station?
Yes. At least one SteamVR base station is required to use the Beyond, and it will not initialize without one (you will get a grey screen)
Will my graphics card run the Beyond?
The Beyond requires a GPU capable of outputting DP 1.4 with Display Stream Compression - this means an NVIDIA RTX 2000 series or AMD RX 5000 series is a hard requirement to run the Beyond, older GPUs will not work. This includes some older GPUs like the GTX 1080 Ti, as even with firmware updates they only have partial DSC support.
Can my Laptop with the correct GPU run the Beyond?
The answer is... maybe! It all depends if the dedicated GPU can output the needed signal via an adapter, usually miniDP to DP or USB-C to DP. Use caution, as some laptops output only their integrated (and not discrete) graphics to these ports.
See the "Using a Laptop With the Beyond" help article for more information.
Is Linux supported?
While Linux is not officially supported, the Beyond can run on Linux. However, this is dependent on your GPU - it will work with AMD GPUs, and NVIDIA GPUs weren't supported for a long time.
For more information, explore the "Linux VR Adventures" Discord server and the "Bigscreen Beyond on Linux" server.
Is MacOS supported?
Unfortunately, MacOS is is not supported and the Beyond will not function correctly.
Are any non-Windows devices supported? Can I just feed the display directly?
No. Only Windows devices with SteamVR are supported at this time - feeding a display signal alone from other sources will not work.
This includes smartphones, TV boxes like NVIDIA SHIELD, gaming consoles, and FPV Drone display outputs.
SteamVR Requirements and Addons
Which type of base stations are supported? How many do I need?
SteamVR Base station 1.0s and 2.0s will work well with the Beyond.
1.0 and 2.0 base stations cannot be combined.
For seated-only experiences where you face primarily in one direction, one base station can work, but two can help ensure the most reliable tracking.
For general VR use, 2-3 works well.
For combined use with a Full Body Tracking (FBT) setup, 3-4 are recommended for the best tracking performance.
Where can I purchase base stations?
Base stations can be found from a variety of sources, including...
You may also have success with a national electronics store, or through second hand kit purchases (e.g. HTC Vive)
Note: Base station 1.0s are pretty old at this point! It's possible for many of these to begin slowly failing at this point - be aware of this if you encounter any issues with tracking.
Are controllers required for use? Which ones?
While VR controllers are not required (some use cases, such as sim racing and flight simming do not really need them), they are recommended for general VR use.
Valve Index Controllers remain the most popular choice, with good ergonomics, buttons, and finger tracking.
Any other SteamVR controllers can also work. NOTE: SteamVR 1.0 controllers will only work with 1.0 base stations (e.g. black HTC Vive controller). However, 2.0 controllers, trackers, and headsets work with 1.0 base stations.
Other options include, but are not limited to...
Are non-SteamVR controllers (e.g. Quest, Pico, etc) supported?
Non SteamVR controllers are not supported. Some controllers that have external tracking (e.g. CV1 controllers, Quest Pro controllers) may be used at the same time with playspace calibrator, but it's not usually recommended.
